As part of the AHA course goals and objectives, you will learn how to motivate students while at the same time teach students to act safely and effectively in emergency situations. A well-trained HS instructor will be part of the mission to reduce disability and death caused by heart disease and stroke.
This program is approved by and meets the behavioral objectives of the AHA for HS and BLS instruction and is based upon the most recent guidelines published by the AHA.
Course length:
One-day intensive training; (8-10) hours in duration.
Course Objectives:
- Provide the tools to teach the AHA course material
- Organize and conduct a HS & BLS course using the DVD/ lesson maps in the HS instructor materials
- Instruct on the team concept of HS management
- Guide and evaluate students during practice stations and HS & BLS skills testing checklist
- Understand the concept of student remediation and demonstrate effective remediation techniques
- Explain AHA and Training Center policies concerning HS courses, completion of course forms, and the process for instructor renewal
- Pass skills tests with 100%
Course Prerequisite:
- A current AHA HS provider card
- Print, review and bring Instructor Candidate Workbook
- Review the HS Product and Course Orientation on Instructor Network
- A letter from a Training Center Coordinator indicating that the TC will accept you as an instructor (if not aligning with NPSC)
- A willingness to teach the scientific and program guidelines of the American Heart Association
- A commitment to teach two courses per year according to AHA guidelines

- A 2015 AHA HS instructor manual
- A 2015 AHA HS DVD (Discipline Specific)
- Instructor Essentials online module certificate of completion

**A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of class, but additional requirements must be met prior to receiving instructor card. Instructor card will be issued by the aligned Training Center upon successful monitoring of a Provider course.
